Insurance

The EACR has Public Liability and Personal Accident Insurance for Members. The Association currently pays premiums on two insurance policies for its members. Basic details are as follows::

Public Liability: This policy covers minor works only. No definition of “minor works” is available but it would cover routine maintenance and similar activities, the use of halls for meetings and some fundraising activities. It would not cover a major bell restoration project, which must have its own insurance cover in place. There will clearly be some grey areas; for example, it is not clear whether the removal of a bell from the tower for repairs would be classified as “minor”.
The indemnity is £2,000,000 for every claim with an excess of £100.

The new policy includes Member to Member liability.

If there are any doubts as to whether a particular activity is covered, please discuss this with the Hon. Treasurer as soon as possible so that he may clear the position with our insurers. If there are any queries as to the extent of the cover or any exclusions, please contact the Hon. Treasurer.

Personal Accident: This covers individual members (but not non-resident members) and anyone under instruction prior to being accepted for membership, anywhere in the United Kingdom whilst undertaking work in respect of inspection, maintenance, restoration and any other work on church bells. This policy also covers the actual ringing of bells and direct travel to and from any of the above.

Benefits are: (i) £10,000 for death, permanent loss of sight, speech, hearing (both ears) or limbs and permanent total disablement. £2,500 for permanent loss of hearing in one ear.
(ii) Up to £100 per week for temporary total disablement (up to 104 weeks and not exceeding any member’s weekly income).

PLEASE NOTE: Unemployed members do not receive temporary disablement payments.   Those members aged under 16 are covered for £1,000 only upon death. Those aged 65 or over are not covered for temporary or permanent total disablement.   Those aged 75 or over are only covered for £1,000 on death and receive no other benefits.   In addition, in the event of death by accident, Funeral Expenses of up to £2,500 may be paid.   The maximum total amount payable for any occurrence is £1,000,000.

The above is a summary of the policies held and in any conflict with this summary and the actual policies, the policies will take precedence.

Any member whose subscription is in arrears and who has not paid those arrears by the following Annual General Meeting, will not have their insurance cover renewed. It is therefore even more important that you do not let your membership lapse. In the event of a claim, the Association Officers will decide whether you are a valid member. It is required that accurate membership lists are kept as regular reviews of payments due (or overpaid) will be made.
